    Coach Burdette,

Every offseason we actually research this same information. In the red zone, I think a lot of it revolves around the players understanding what offenses do in the red zone. We must stop the run and understand the reduced space we have to cover. Our number one answer is to play man and pressure, but I think it is important that we have zone answers as well. If we only play Man down there, the offense will eventually get us; need to keep them honest.

On the goalline, it depends on whether our opponent has a short yardage group or not. Many teams we play stay in their 10/11 personnel even on the goalline, so we match their personnel. But we must be prepared to have a true goalline front. We like to use a 6-2 look on the goalline.

Do you play any “Bear” front in your goal line package? We are installing the 3-4 this year for the first time and are trying to put together our goal line fronts and coverage’s. Also, what do you do on Punt return / block with an odd front and you can not line up on the snapper? Do you sub any defensive players out for punt block/return? Your 3-4 package is so similar to what we have put in it is scary. Thanks
