What is your best advice for building a playbook for defense? Line up everything to doubles and build out from there based on formations you’ll see in your conference?

In your movement with the d-line, are they simply penetrating that gap to the right or left or are they block react read, as in DT slants right, guard is pulling and its Buck sweep at him, he will wrong arm and if pull away he will follow hip pocket and sling shot for example?

What is the correct coaching points for the Cover 3 DB’s ?

What would you play to TE/Wing offenses that run buck and TE/Wing offenses that run dive/lead/and lead sweep?

    Building a defensive playbook:

I always start with pro and spread. This gives you a (2) WR side, TE/Flanker side, and Dead end. Once we have drawn up our looks to these we can add in Trey (TE & 2 WR) and Trips (3 WR)

To prepare for wing T and option teams, we will always start with our base Okie look and fit up their top plays.

When our D-line attacks a gap, we are reading on the run. We want our guys to play fast and attack the OL. They should read their key just like they need when they line up on their key. We want them to play fast at the heel line of the OL. Reactions are based on Run To Me, Run Away From Me and Pass.

Awesome, thanks so much coach. I have started lining up everything against Doubles like you mentioned so I’m good there and will add in the other formations after, thanks for that word. Also, thanks for the d-line explanation as well. I’m struggling with personnel in my secondary this year…we have formally been 3-4 Cov.2 or Cov.0….This year I won’t have good read or man coverage guys and I need 8 to stop the run, so I’m looking hard at the rip liz and bringing the Jack on the roll side…I’m not as familiar with cov.3 but as I watch cut ups it seems guys are always getting picks and stuffing the run…I know it’s hard to defend 4 verts, but we seldom see that or a QB that can throw them…Any more Cov. 3 pointers I’d love to hear as well. Thanks for everything.
